Notices by GIMP (gimp@floss.social)

Small stats for the fun: GIMP 3.0.4, released 10 days ago, has been downloaded a bit more than 2 million times (only counting platforms where we have stats: our download server, Flathub stats and MS Store stats).

The previous version (3.0.2) had been downloaded about 10 million times (again, known numbers only).

😚

@vera Every distribution handles their own packages. So yeah, it's Debian which takes care of updating their GIMP package.

We only maintain the packages visible on our download page.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed in any way - from testing and submitting bug reports through to designing, coding, fixing, packaging, testing some more, translating, documenting, hosting, administration, so many people, so much work, so much to be thankful for!

Welcome to GIMP 3.0!

Our third release candidate for #GIMP 3.0.0 is now published: https://www.gimp.org/news/2025/02/10/gimp-3-0-RC3-released/

Enjoy everyone! 💌

GIMP team and @zemarmot will be present at @fosdem 2025. We'll have a talk followed by a keynote on Sunday in the Janson room!

We hope to see many people there! 🤗

A new release of @GTK 3 just happened. It contains several fixes for issues we reported (or even contributed patch for), including fixing bad crashes on Wayland (in both @kde and @gnome) and an annoying bug when using Right-to-Left languages.

Pretty happy of it! 🥳

Dear packagers: please package GTK 3.24.48 when you'll package our RC3. This dramatically improves stability and usability of GIMP!

After careful consideration, @zemarmot decided to publish a third release candidate for #GIMP 3.0.0, because some of the fixes we made changed some core logic. So we'll want a bit more testing.

~14 more reports to close (of course, this number fluctuates up and down as we progress, but our rhythm is good so far!). 🧑💻

We finally released the macOS packages of GIMP 3.0.0 RC2 (both for Intel and Apple Silicon hardware): https://www.gimp.org/downloads/devel/ 🥳

Big thanks to @lukaso who has been maintaining these packages for macOS all these years! 👍

Looking forward any feedback from macOS users. And again a very happy new year to everyone! 🎇

#GIMP 3.0.0 RC2 (second #release candidate) is released! 🎄🎁

Enjoy everyone and have a very happy holiday season! 🥳🥂

We are very happy to present you with GIMP 3.0.0 RC1! 🥳

This is our first release candidate for what will be GIMP 3.0.0. Now is the time for everyone to test!

It is the result of years of work. I'm sure it still has many bugs (and you should report!), but we hope you will still appreciate the new version. 🤗

Did you know that #GIMP's maintainers @zemarmot produce animation films for a living? If possible Libre Art movies. One of them was "What is the Fediverse?", commissioned by @Framasoft, which you may have watched around here!

Cool to see it modified by other langs' communities (TY #ccbysa license) e.g. in Italian (note: we don't speak Italian, just assuming it's a good translation 😃) by @artofstimart https://peertube.uno/w/qKHxZYjWP8m1DrGjLz2e6o

Of course #MadeWithGIMP!

GIMP's donation page on @Liberapay has now been set up to display public donators:

Getting this info out, in case it helps donations. Financially supporting GIMP development contributes to making the software sustainable. 🏋️

GIMP 2.99.16 (development version) has just been released! 🎉

GIMP 2.10.34 is now out with a very nice team effort! It features various improvements, such as better support of several file formats.

Also it is the first of a new release procedure with the goal to improve the quality of each release! ?

https://www.gimp.org/news/2023/02/27/gimp-2-10-34-released/

This is also a nice time to remind that the main developers are crowdfunding their effort, improving the software at each and every release.

Donating to their development funds makes their work and therefore #GIMP itself sustainable!?

#GIMP now supports importing and exporting clipping paths for PSD files! Thanks to Nikc for the implementation and Jacob Boerema for their patient review and feedback.
