#GIMP 3.0.0 RC3 is now at 83% with only 10 issues to fix!
You'll notice how we are now at 49 already closed reports now, while we were at 14 to close with 38 closed reports a few days ago! 😉
Things are getting exciting again!

And now the last blocker for @GIMP RC2 has been merged! 🥳
It's code by @pippin for a new "Perceptual" blend space for layer modes (in fact the old "perceptual" blend space was rather a "use image's profile curves" blend space so it was renamed to "RGB (from color space)"). It fixes some layer modes where the algorithm was rather expecting the input to be perceptual.
We are **very** close to a new release candidate! 🎅
Oh and if you wonder about the image behind my previous screencast: it's the next splash image for @GIMP 3.0.0 RC2, still contributed by Sevenix 🧑🎨 in #CreativeCommons by 4.0.
😍 🌆
Side improvement while working on more important #GIMP code: I implemented history search with Ctrl-R/S (as common in shells) in the Python Console plug-in, because I use it so often to test various libgimp functions that I felt having to hit up/down arrow to find previously run code was too inefficient.
Now I just Ctrl-R <type some part of the function I want> Ctrl-R (as many time as needed to find it back). 😊
So today I kinda finished my branch for a new public filter API in #GIMP 3.0.
We used to have special-case code for specific filters. Now it will be generic code able to apply *any* GEGL operation as a filter in @GIMP, just like the GUI already allows!
Of course, it makes use of the non-destructive filter infrastructure so you can append filters non-destructively or merge them old-school!
Tonight my brain is foggy (too much code). I'll review again and will merge tomorrow. 🥳
Happy 29th birthday, @GIMP ! 🎂🎉
On 1995-11-21, #GIMP was born as a General Image Manipulation Program 🖼️🎨 as a student project in the University of California 🧑🎓. 29 years later, it is still there, more independent than ever as a worldwide Community, Free Software project!
Since in my current part of the world, it's been the 21st for many hours now, I figured I'd wish our dear project and its contributors all the great future it deserves! 💌

So here it is! The finale countdown to @GIMP 3! I've been preparing this schedule for weeks now and I think we can make it.
My hopeful deadline is the next @lgm though if we manage to release before, it's all for the better, right? 😊
I'll catch up a little bit on the news, my apologies in advance. @danslerush
Maintenance decision on #GIMP / notice to packagers : after working around the last issues we had with meson, we are now going to recommend our meson build for the next development versions of GIMP (2.99 series). The autotools build stay for now as backup.
New settings I worked on for #GIMP 2.99.12 : up to now, modifiers on canvas were hard-coded. Now it will be possible to switch actions, or even disable them (e.g. some people dislike the canvas rotation; the menu on right click also seem less useful nowadays).
Last activity from our child project ZeMarmot : #GIMP 2.99.12 release !

It looks like people have been able to build the latest dev release of #GIMP for #HaikuOS :)
A lot of work which takes me away from code, but also wildly interesting.
Also a lot of thanks to @patdavid who is helping me on the styling side (while I handle the contents), with #pixlsus theming code, and Robin Swift for triggering the whole port (which had been planned for a while but on the backlog until now) and helping us with data moving.
Dev news : The awesome Jacob Boerema set up a brand new publication process for #GIMP documentation at https://docs.gimp.org
All available languages listed with up-to-date completion rate, quick references for all lang too, daily updates and many more improvements !
Infra news : This night (2022/08/30) we moved #GIMP download infra to #Mirrorbits by #Videolan. So far, it's nice : geoIP redirects, mirror health and security checks …
We are temporarily a dozen mirror short as we are requesting updates to mirrors for the new system.
Dev news : Since #GIMP 2.99.12 release, I've been taking time to work on the upcoming developer website, documenting contribution howtos, but also reviewing and documenting algorithms.
Old wiki data such as roadmaps and build tutorials were moved there and improved.
More data needs to be moved from the wiki, but also from main source repo. New tutorials will need to be written. And we are planning to merge the GUI wiki (UX specifications and the like) in there too.
Animation film (CC BY-SA) about a Marmot made with FLOSS, directed by Aryeom Han and written by Jehan Pagès, also technical support (one of the main contributor to GIMP). This account is official and maintained by @danslerush.
