@apps @HolosSocial > "You truly own your identity, posts, and followers."

Sounds interesting. However, my #ActivityPub identity is my actor URI. The HTTP signature key pair is just the way I prove it's mine. It looks like the Holos relay controls my AP actor URI (and maybe the URI of my posts???). Is that true? What happens if I move to a different relay?

Got my GUI v0.1 done for my blog + microblog and been microblogging to myself the last few days. 🤣

Going to dust off my old #ActivityPub logic and try to tie it in soon.. then I'll try to crack open #ATProto docs and see if I can incorporate it as well.

A good Fediverse prediction for 2026:

"The new “#ActivityRank” algorithm in #Loops will prove that ethical recommendations & decentralization can coexist. @dansup’s approach—where each instance trains its own #algorithm while surfacing content across the #ActivityPub network—will be recognized as a breakthrough in solving the fediverse’s #discoverability problem. By the end of 2026, the pattern will be studied or adopted by other ActivityPub platforms."

My 2026 Open Social Web Predictions
I just finished reviewing my 2025 predictions (how do you think I did grading myself?) www.timothychambers.net/2024/12/2… Now it’s time to make some bets for 2026. I do this not to prove how great my prognostication muscles are, but to shine a spotlight on trends I think are vital, spur discussions, and give some attention to projects that have earned it. As always, I try to make these as quantifiable, verifiable and crisp as I can.

I've been working on #ActivityPub support in the Agora, looking forward to testing!

The idea is to offer a relatively time-agnostic entrypoint into people's writings.

💕 I'm so thankful for all the work to the #FEP process you have 🎁 gifted this entire year. You are one of those who help the #fediverse shine, aggregating building blocks, paving pathways with grassroots #ActivityPub tiles, where only raw substrate of ✨ possibilities existed before.

This "2026 edition" I hope we can walk, all like you, in unison on a singular cause. Towards sunnier #SocialWeb futures. Grow strong to face a gloomy #SocialNetworking landscape of offline society.

FEP-0151: NodeInfo in Fediverse Software (2025 edition)

I added the "Implementations" section and a reference to FEP-844e:

    https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/pulls/741

There are 3 independent implementations now. Since this is a "2025 edition", and 2025 is about to end, I think the FEP should be finalized.

If you have any suggestions, please comment here, on SocialHub, or create an issue.

Hope this leads to an even larger shared-layer between all the js/node #activitypub implementations like Ghost, NodeBB, *keys et.al.

Particularly wishing for convergence around a shared *identity core* across all these AP apps in accordance with NomadPub by @silverpill

    https://codeberg.org/ap-next/ap-next/src/branch/main/nomadpub.md

    FEP-ef61: Portable Objects
    FEP-ae97: Client-side activity signing

That in addition to a common OAuth foundation would effectively be ActivityPub 2.0 and on-par with atproto.

It is still not possible to follow someone on #Mastodon (or elsewhere) from #Lemmy or #Piefed, right?

So no use of #activitypub either. Is that correct?

I wonder if you could use/abuse Mastodon polls (FEP-9967) to distribute posts that provide near-real-time status updates (I'm thinking about severe weather alerts but I'm sure there are other use cases)?

Create a poll with an expiry far in the future and a token set of options (ideally just one—"Do you opt in?"—but poll implementations seem to require at least two).

Nothing seems to prevent the content of a poll from changing—and this is the key insight. The FEP says, "The type of a poll (single choice / multiple choices) and its options might be changed at any time. In that case the author of the poll MUST reset the vote counts." So broadcast updates via the content.

It would be a lightweight way to follow a single item without following the actor, built on top of implementations that already exist.

As a community, we often ask ourselves how to attract more users to #XMPP. Yet the real tragedy is that people would rather build something entirely new (loosely based on email or #ActivityPub) than consider XMPP. Need end-to-end encryption by default? If compatibility with existing XMPP clients is a secondary concern, you can implement it in your own solution while still benefiting from our two decades of experience in instant messaging.

I consider this a failure on our part but I don’t really know what to do about it. Most arguments against #XMPP don’t hold if you’re building from scratch anyway:

    • #Conversations_im looks very outdated: OK, but you are developing your own clients anyway.

    • XMPP doesn’t have an SDK: Neither does your #ActivityPub or email stack

    • OMEMO is insecure and I would prefer #MLS: Yes, let’s work on that together and you’ll still benefit from XMPP’s 100+ solved IM problems.

I need to make @pfefferle laugh::
I was just wondering where followers and following were on #ActivityPub - "I switched to authors and blog, and I no longer found followers"
I was writing a topic on the forum, when I just explored my dashboard more and found the two different directions: author's followers are in users submenu, blog followers are on ActivityPub's submenu.
    Blindness related epic fail.

    Betrifft #ActivityPub (#Wordpress)

I thinking of uninstalling the excellent #Wordpress #ActivityPub Plugin and defederating my sites from the #Fediverse. For technical reasons only. CPU goes through the roof when new posts are boosted for the first time, causing 508 errors.

Does anyone else suffer from this problem and have any suggestions to lighten the load?

Maybe I’m overreacting and should just live with the minute or two of daily downtime?

    I have Litespeed cache installed.

For people interested in #ActivityPub #C2S (client to server), the #GoActivityPub services have gained the ability to dynamically register OAuth2 clients based on RFC7591.

The easiest to test is the ONI project that can be directly run without much setup: https://git.sr.ht/~mariusor/oni

"Every Activity Pub server duplicates content. Without it there'd be no seeing posts from anybody on servers other than their home server. It's literally the thing that makes the protocol work. If being on a protocol that specifically is designed to duplicate content isn't permission enough to duplicate content then the Fediverse goes poof. Zilch. Zero. Nada."
