@alyx i saw some incredibly bizzare shit where someone was trying to make an argument that jesus was a witch and the miracles were just regular human magic. i kind of shrugged because i don't take these things seriously.

re-reading about stoics and epicurians and there was some discussion that before the catholic church happened the early sects shared a lot of values with the stoics.

gnostics basically said nothing outside the material plane is your friend out there. abraham asked for and demands incredibly fucked up shit over the stories. stoics basically say no matter what happens outside they can't get in your head without your permission and once you realize you are not the voices you can start projecting willpower on to other people (and they did so, up to the point of basically delaying the entire collapse of the classical empire)
