@dalias@hachyderm.io @tehstu@hachyderm.io @tamas@hachyderm.io Another example I can think of - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XFree86#2003:_The_fork_and_the_disbanding_of_the_Core_Team XFree86 -> Xorg. Xfree86 was starting to get a bit too greedy, closing off development to a core team. The core team left and made their own thing. You don't need Mozilla employees to leave for this to be accomplished though. Look at teams such as Servo which https://www.zdnet.com/article/mozilla-lays-off-250-employees-while-it-refocuses-on-commercial-products/ were cut off by Mozilla's greed. There are plenty of people who have been hurt by Mozilla in the same way that there were plenty of "disgruntled" (they were rightfully upset at Oracle's acquisition of Sun Microsystems) Oracle employees who moved on to work in community led projects. I think there just needs to be a strong enough community fork with goals and some progress, other people will follow.
