I was in Taito City in Tokyo and most vending machines did not have a bottle recycler bin next to them. One time I had to walk a couple kilometers before I found a bin. A lot of the machines just had bottles piled up next to them, this was the most common place I saw trash on the street in Tokyo. If I am in the USA and there's nowhere to throw away the can I just put it on top of the machine but since I am a guest here I tried to not leave trash on the ground even if other people were doing it...

I have been here about 8 days so far. I wandered around some sketchier areas in Tokyo and saw one homeless person. In Osaka in one sketchy area I was walking down the street and had to be quiet because several homeless people (maybe 8) were dotted down the street, sleeping outside on the ground. This was more homeless than I saw in Europe but admittedly I didn't go to any sketchy places anywhere in Europe.
