about the Poland situation, most of the harsh treatment by EU institutions when PiS ruled Poland was due to two things:
- PiS being trash at diplomacy, antagonizing EU instead of negotiating a good deal for PL
- PiS having the brilliant idea to capture the judical system and make it fully government-dependent, and fucking it up beyond recognition in the process, so now nobody knows what the law is
