@johnnyappleseed @Remi @Shadowman311 @WashedOutGundamPilot @Xiego @YTFoidLover1488 we're in for a horrible future of autistic network segmentation, a whitelist-only approach to communication, and regularly throwing out (and destroying) perfectly good network-connected equipment because the manufacturer has declared it end of life and will no longer provide firmware updates so the CVEs it's vulnerable to just continue stacking up until even an ape with a learning disability or a particularly intelligent houseplant could press a single button to run an automated exploit against it.

vendors will of course use this to force customers into subscription based models. if you BUY this new copier for $3000 it'll eventually be out of support, but if you lease a copier from our copier plan for $299 a month, we'll give you a new copier every two years! oh and also you'll need to install this software that counts pages and toner use, it has to run as domain admin and be connected to an office 365 global admin account without MFA and have the firewall turned off.
