It’s 5.20am so I’m researching crisp flavours.
So far I’ve learned that Tayto (Free Stayto) launched the first flavoured crisp in 1954, Cheese and Onion. Previously, all was salt.
Tudor (owned by Smiths) launched Salt and Vinegar in 1967.
What I wanted to know was when smokey bacon crisps were introduced. I’m guessing the 1970s.
Apparently these are threatened by new EU rules on smoke flavouring, meaning Tayto will be banned from making them in the north of Ireland.
