So who qualifies for trial by combat? Is it just random volunteers in a pool? Does the State get a separate (but equal) pool?

If not, do you get to select your own Champion? Like, you could just select someone you hate from your childhood if you know you're guilty and want them to die too?

Wouldn't that create a society where no one wants to be friends for fear of being volunteered for combat duty? Fuck, it's hard enough to get out of jury duty!
