The American lifestyle for the past few generations was basically the product of a whole nation running up a credit card that had no spending limits while they only make the minimum payments every month. Now the card is getting declined when we swipe it, and due to generations of fiscal illiteracy the vast majority of people are completely incapable of understanding why swiping the card isn't allowing us to get stuff anymore.
