i just don't see what pride has to do with it. he has a lack of understanding on how price works. I could recommend a few books if he would like to learn.

Prices on all things change at all times. He agreed to sell eggs in the past at a specific price. he did not agree to sell eggs in the future. And even if he did, so fucking what. Just say the price of feed went up, or the cost of living went up. Or refuse to elaborate on why the price is up. Who cares.
