A thought:

If you've chosen 'black' for dark-mode, perhaps think about dark but more nuanced 'anthracite' - somewhere around #252525.

If you do a poll of the _colour_ in dark-modes across many sites/apps, I suspect dark anthracite will be more frequently used. Also, ask an experienced UI graphic designer or three.
