Before WW2, you wanted to be like your dad, your grandpa, your ancestors. They set the standard, and gave you something to achieve. Then the Post-War Economic Boom happened, and in with all the media flood was woven the idea that "Pfft, every generation rebels against their parents! It's only natural!" which is utter bullshit but people sucked it down and began to be atomized individuals.
