Maybe. My take on Christianity is that it was adopted as a unifier but backfired for the reasons Nietzsche mentioned: belief must involve reality, not reject it, or the belief makes itself obsolete.

It's similar to an argument Plato made which is essentially that we can derive faith from observation of nature.
