- Embed this notice@BILLSan345 @Sherri_Ingrey I had an interesting conversation with my son-in-law about this. He's a bit woke (he's young) and was defending sanctions against hate speech. He gave using the *n* word as an example of words that cause distress, but then justified black people using it. He wasn't sure of his argument when I suggested that it couldn't be a hateful/banned word if some people are *allowed* to use it but not others, and who gets to decide who is and isn't *allowed* to use it. I was trying to point out that there is a difference between society having a consensus about polite/acceptable/rude words depending on context and laws around policing language.
