     @BILLSan345 @Sherri_Ingrey I had an interesting conversation with my son-in-law about this. He's a bit woke (he's young) and was defending sanctions against hate speech. He gave using the *n* word as an example of words that cause distress, but then justified black people using it. He wasn't sure of his argument when I suggested that it couldn't be a hateful/banned word if some people are *allowed* to use it but not others, and who gets to decide who is and isn't *allowed* to use it. I was trying to point out that there is a difference between society having a consensus about polite/acceptable/rude words depending on context and laws around policing language.

     @KeepTakingTheSoma @Sherri_Ingrey Your last sentence gives the right framework for adjudicating on the words we use. We really shouldn't be policed about words used as insults because as humans those are what we sometimes resort to. I went to a league football match with my brother-in-law some years back and couldn't believe the chorus of filth that each side's supporters unleashed on each other!

     @BILLSan345 @KeepTakingTheSoma I want to see hate crimes limited to those that actually promote hatred with emphasis on PROMOTION. It might catch a few "preachers" and "influencers" after all, that SHOULD be caught. I also don't support ANY hate crimes unless it INCLUDES MISOGYNY.
