@skinnylatte Many years ago, probably after the beginning of the "War on Terror" and subsequent excesses of government power and Islamophobia and general shittiness towards PoC, I felt sad about the future of the US

And I saw an interview with an immigrant from somewhere like Iraq or Afghanistan, and he was asked, "Do you think it was still worth coming here, [with all these restrictions on freedom]?"

And basically he said that what made this worthwhile wasn't the freedom, but the opportunity
