You can see how contrived it is when large amounts of sitting politicians retire to fix an imbalance, or when an imbalance is created regardless and the reigning party twiddles their thumbs until balance is achieved again.

Same with popular opinion contriving on certain issues (framing questions to get a split rather than an overwhelming popular consensus). Same with coalitions in government.

In europe, it can be a little more "organic" but it's still contrived in other ways.
