Charlie Stross@quinn The US military is surprisingly small, in terms of people: it was an order of magnitude larger within living memory. What makes it effective is that it professionalized to an extent unimagined by any military before the 1990s. I don't see Trump's "reforms" doing anything good for morale or retention, so it can all fall apart within a single enlistment term.
