abuse, violence and murder are release valves for human social dynamics, stress builds up, people follow their evil impulses
I don't think this is true. Catharsis, venting your anger (like in The Purge type movies) doesn't make people calm down. There are numerous studies where people are riled up and put in a room with breakable stuff. You give half a baseball bat and tell them to go to town, and the other half you get to sit quietly. The ones allowed to "release" are even more angry after, where the ones who sit quietly are calmer and more rational afterwards.
He also provided an example for those of us that want to do good but are grinded out of Faith by the evil world.
To some extent, Christians who embrace this school of thought (turn the other cheek) and the Buddhists are both right about calming yourself down is better for you and everyone around you rather than rage an anger.
To the credit of Christianity, the Jesus story we know only has him enraged when harm and injustice is caused to others, and rarely himself.
