These are real "compact crossovers". They're larger than classic compact SUVs like the Suzuki Samurai and Sidekick, or the Geo Tracker, or even early crossovers like the early CR-Vs or RAV4s, but not that roomy inside. They have proportions of clown cars, likely to meet "safety rules" and the CAFE rules.
Likely they will be paired with a tiny ass engine that'll have massive repair bills before the transmission does as it strains trying to carry the heavy body, like a tiny 1.2l Turbo i4 or a 1.0l turbo i3 ripped straight out of a compact or supermini. They have as much cargo room as a hatchback, except many companies quit making those. Some don't even have AWD, and the previous gen Kicks didn't as an example.
Oh and you'll only get 23mpg city 29 highway out of that 3 banger or something comically bad like that. The only thing good about these is you can get some hilarious teardown videos.
