@binkle HE, HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CROSSOVER INFESTATION?! OBAMA, YOU FUCKING NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
@RustyCrab@binkle@suquili obama forced car manufacturers who target the american market primarily to build dogshit trannyesque cars which are neither full on SUVs that can offroad nor reasonably sized station wagons that have more load room while still being more convenient to maintain and repair, an ugly amalgamation of two car types that somehow has only the worst traits of both
@suquili nah it's because the environmental regulations that went in under the obama admin are why all the car companies make essentially the same SUV now (something about fuel efficiency ratings for a given class of vehicle making them more profitable than other kinds)
Car dealers right now in the USA have a serious issue where nobody is buying a Ford SUV/truck that's priced like a lower-end BMW. They are stuck with unsold SUVs, there are YouTube videos of people walking over SUVs that have sat unsold that sometimes cost 6 digits, and one that even had bird shit on it.
Furthermore, the Big 3 quit making all cars that weren't "sports cars" or "luxury cars". The Japanese, German (if you count VW), and Korean companies still make them for the USA market. But Ford and GM and the like found out you can sell a "compact crossover" for more money than a normal fucking car.
These are real "compact crossovers". They're larger than classic compact SUVs like the Suzuki Samurai and Sidekick, or the Geo Tracker, or even early crossovers like the early CR-Vs or RAV4s, but not that roomy inside. They have proportions of clown cars, likely to meet "safety rules" and the CAFE rules.
Likely they will be paired with a tiny ass engine that'll have massive repair bills before the transmission does as it strains trying to carry the heavy body, like a tiny 1.2l Turbo i4 or a 1.0l turbo i3 ripped straight out of a compact or supermini. They have as much cargo room as a hatchback, except many companies quit making those. Some don't even have AWD, and the previous gen Kicks didn't as an example.
Oh and you'll only get 23mpg city 29 highway out of that 3 banger or something comically bad like that. The only thing good about these is you can get some hilarious teardown videos. https://youtu.be/0yx1-50iqnA
