e.g., if you use ipfilter or ipfw on FreeBSD you could keep the same firewall configs for 25+ years but if you used Linux you'd have to rewrite it at least 3 times (ipchains, iptables, nftables, or being forced to adopt ufw and other wrappers depending on your distro)
