e.g., if you use ipfilter or ipfw on FreeBSD you could keep the same firewall configs for 25+ years but if you used Linux you'd have to rewrite it at least 3 times (ipchains, iptables, nftables, or being forced to adopt ufw and other wrappers depending on your distro) -

(Also, BSDs don't rugpull the commands as often as some other systems, so once committed to muscle memory, that skill stays useful for years)

I must admit that I did not use BSD a lot during the last years, but it was so easy to get into it again, because it seemed like nothing had really changed. And although actually some things have changed, or better said, evolved, everything felt still familiar like I had never been away.
