Webp and webm mentioned.
webp kinda sucks. The reason it gets low filesizes is because it forces chroma to be stored at a quarter of the resoultion of luma (which is optional and uncommonly used in older formats such as jpg) What little "improvements" it made are extremely slow and inefficient. The defaults for encoding don't make sense, like why the fuck is sharpyuv off by default???
At least this is for lossy webp. Lossless webp is a completely different beast that shares the same extension.
WebM is just a enshitified version of mkv. mkv is better in literally every way but jewgle jewed the internet to force WebM support and break mkv support even though they are not mutually incompatible (and infact a proper mkv implementation should be more than capable of handling webm.).
WebM isn't even maintained properly as a standard so current webms are just get hacked together so they can do what they need to do while being able to be understood by the reference decoder because they don't fix shit and they don't pull fixes and improvements from mkv.
