Look at projects such as OpenZFS, OpenIndiana (part of OpenSolaris/https://www.illumos.org/). Although in those cases Oracle changed the licensing agreement it still applies. I mean, I am sure the people that took on OpenJDK were overwhelmed at first but nowadays it's the only thing I use. I cannot remember the last time I used Oracle's JDK, sure I've used hotspot which is oracle's JVM but that was part of an openjdk build. It has been years since I have used oracle java.
