- Embed this noticeBut you have to understand that when some guy says, "hey, this thing that walks like a duck, talks like a duck, does every other thing that a duck does, and bears a striking resemblance to a duck? It's not really a duck, because we call it something else," it doesn't inspire confidence that the disconnect is just "linguistic" in nature. For instance, the whole "doula/hyperdoula" thing in particular has always struck me as a particularly semantic and legalistic way to say "no guys we don't actually worship Mary". Not to mention in church history, particularly the Catholic church, you have things like Trent, that if you were to hold today word by word, would be considered anathema.
