problem is ui/ux work is not glamorous or cool and is real work and nobody wants to do it for free and the few of us who do it for free nobody listens to. (fwiw, the BDFL of the olive editor has spoken about how important UX issues are)

you have to run actual experiments with people and then communicate back to the dev team. and the dev team has to have their balls tazered every time they "works on my machine."
