my switching to linux hot take is that we should probably run UI/UX testing with a group of casual computer users in order to fix the experience not just for them but for everyone

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Friday, 30-Aug-2024 15:31:52 JST iced depresso @Jessica @gamer Sun used to do this for GNOME. RIP Sun.
problem is ui/ux work is not glamorous or cool and is real work and nobody wants to do it for free and the few of us who do it for free nobody listens to. (fwiw, the BDFL of the olive editor has spoken about how important UX issues are)
you have to run actual experiments with people and then communicate back to the dev team. and the dev team has to have their balls tazered every time they "works on my machine." -

Jessica's new Main (jessica@kitsunes.club)'s status on Friday, 30-Aug-2024 15:31:54 JST Jessica's new Main @gamer@fedi.bungle.online a few people at the top of gnome decide everything about gnome, even if it actually majorly sucks to use and nearly every distro uses extensions to make up functionality.
but at the same time, gnome has more features with extensions than most desktops -

Gamer (the reincarnation) @icedquinn@blob.cat @Jessica@kitsunes.club this is why like at my work i follow the lead of the ui/ux designer, because he knows that if the app is shit to use, no one uses it, and we don't get paid
devs most of the time be like "works for me 4head just use the funny shortcut"
