@matty This is why I keep telling people to treat politics as transactional. Fuck holding a politician in high regard. They lie and do exactly the opposite of what you want behind your back. They've been doing this , well I dunno since probably the 80s.

What *could* work is gun rights group style action where there are specific things that the group says "you must do this or you will not win, and if you fail us, we will ensure you lose"

The key is having requirements which are doable, and having punishments which are obvious.
