It's still listed on the ports page: https://wiki.netbsd.org/ports/ia64/, but apaprently it's still "work in progress" without any stable releases. Sounds close to PS3's Cell architecture, albeit I don't think it's VLIW. That said, Itanium might be giving VLIW a bad reputation, Crusoe was also VLIW and performed well enough until Pentium M dropped; sadly it never gave developers access to underlying ISA without the x86 translation layer.
