@silverpill @tadano @mint with media proxy on, pleroma bakes in a local url that refetches the image anytime someone views it through the proxy url. You have to cache with nginx or similar to limit repeated (and potentially very slow) media requests.
Otherwise pleroma bakes the image url from the remote host into the feed that it serves to the user and the user's browser fetches from the third party.
