@anemone @nyx @mischievoustomato @meso @waifu @arcana assuming we're talking about the economic collapse, institutional incompetence around government interference with pdvsa destroyed venezuela, chavez is certainly to blame for the bulk of it but the actions undertaken were not uniquely socialistic ones and a right wing strongman could just as well have done the same basic kinds of things (in fact, I have a strong suspicion that argentina is going to long term suffer a similar fate at the hands of milei or one of his successors)
