Yep, it's hard to think of one, but I guess that's where the great minds behind the organizers and program coordinators can come in.
At least from my end, the only one I am curious about because of the opening ceremony was the “headless” and the building that used to be a prison? I have it listed in my ToRead list. The rest, especially the controversial ones, were based from Greek mythology so I'm familiar with them. -- Which were understandable, Olympics … Olympia … Greece.
The other ones, that I can remember seeing that has to do with French history, were the museums. Which sadly I won't be able to visit in this lifetime as much as I love to visit museums. Although it would have been great if they gave more information about the “characters” they made alive when the masked torch bearer visited the museums.
Something like that.
Or, maybe an important castle or two? Or, those were outside of Paris? Of course, if they already did something similar before, that's understandable as well, definitely no one wants a repeat or a rehash.
Yeah, basically a cultural difference. ^^
