> genuine question: you do not learn about Louis XIV, the French Revolution etc in school?
Nope.
* The American Civil War was touched… briefly.
* World War I… just in passing but the main concentration was World War II - the Pacific side mainly.
* Charlemagne and his “Holy Roman Empire” was briefly touched… just because “Roman Empire” and religion.
If I remember correctly, the American KKK was not even mentioned in passing because it will only confused the students. #KKK for us was a revolutionary group who fought against the Spanish invaders. (Which won't surprise us if not even mentioned in Spain.)
French… the closest we ever got was Joan of Arc … because Catholicism, not because “French history”.
Schools can't teach every single war in the world, or every history of each nation. They only concentrate on those which were major, or have some relation/connection to their own country. And usually, it was rewritten or reinterpreted in the eyes of the “storyteller”
> Did you expect peole in traditional garnments dancing Polka?
Is dancing the only French traditional culture? I didn't even known Polka is French until you asked that question. I thought it's American… Polka dots and everything they brought to us. *shrugs*
> Btw, the EU is not centralised at all.
Or, Federal?
