the vaccine is fine for a first gen vaccine
*if we had bothered to reduce transmission it would have been enough* -- and saved many, many lives and bought time for lots of people to come up with more permanent solutions ( HVAC/air filtration/research into masks/etc ).

the efficacy starts around 99-100% but drops fairly rapidly (given the hundreds of millions of circulating cases). We need wayyy more rapid updates and longer-lasting immunity (which mrna vaccines allow for) if we're going to get this under control in practice though and especially the current vaccines in canada are in bad need of an update

on the contrary it was clear from pretty early(apr 2020 at the latest) that lots of people would be
