So many people (esp. above-average intelligence white men) mistake hard work & discipline for innate ability when it comes to creative endeavors, b/c they were told from an early age they were smart when they got good grades w/o trying. So when they encounter something they’re not immediately good at, they give up too readily b/c they’ve never had to really work hard at anything before.
