It would be more prudent to look into ye olde worlde traditional methods of gunpowder manufacturing, or see if there's a sort of "bio-mining" strategy available. Traditionally tannery work and methods was chemistry from available animal and human waste. They used things like urine and feces coating a straw wall exposed to wind and sun as a way to create crystalized sulfur (i think?). There's a lot that can be done with urine in particular. Gross but real.
