Evan Prodromou@jamie in particular, on the topic of copying binary files from one server to another, as @monnier mentioned, it can help with limiting the amount of information shared with the remote server. It can also help limit the number of hits to that remote server, by caching on the receiving server. For private data, I'm particularly referring to followers-only posts, but it could also be relevant for DMs.
