I never heard about it until begoming Eastern Christian (xDDD), but it's mentioned often, including iconography.

Aquinas 👍🏻 although Jeremiah 1:5 ["Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”]
makes this point seem odd (unless we assume either an exceptional nature of prophets which the verse seems to imply or take it as an understanding of the all-knowing nature of God).
