Lately I've been watching a lot more anime. Even if I download western movies, I try to stick to things made before 2018. Very little that has been produced recently has been any good. There are a few rare gems like Land (2021), but most of it has turned to pure rubbish.

I even liked the first season of Halo, but the 2nd season has had more cultural wreckage seeping in. There has to be a gay man dating a disabled blind former Spartan who is a minority. The fucking Admiral gave his pep talk and said "Women and men" .. the women first is clearly intention, even though women rarely ever serve in combat roles in real life because they would literally get murdered faster unless they were behind a gun, tank or other weapon that augmented their clear physical disadvantage.

I regret not applying for JET and teaching in Japan while I was younger, just so I could at least understand more of it in the face of issues with newer localization problems/drama (possibly creating a whole new era of fan subs).

I wonder if in the 2060s, people will look back at western media and make fun of some of the stupid cliche/trope stuff in the same way we do with spaghetti westerns from decades ago.
