The car industry is inventing whole new classes of safety issue with electronic non-traditional ways of selecting and indicating the gear, particularly those that do not have haptic, affirmative touch feedback.

Tesla, in particular, is exceedingly bad on this front, with many issues created by their touch screen oriented approach to virtually all aspects of systems control.
