@Linux_in_a_Bit would be an interesting experiment to throw ambisonics in this mix you made though.

in theory you put the channels in an encoder and tell the encoder to position the speaker where dolby actually specifies it should go. then you mix the surround sound channels all together. and then tell the decoders where you actually put the speakers.

although, idk, maybe it doesn't matter so much. i just know that the audio technicians are quite specific that surround sound should be installed in a particular layout.
