Honestly, I'm not even sure how much innovation it would take to get here. Many currently use 7yo phones.

What if in addition to these changes (all of which I support) we also shift our focus. What if we decided that we didn't need our phone to be the most advanced tech on the block?

There is a lot to be done in the demand side. Ban advertising new phones (or tax it heavily) so we don't all feel like we need the tech to keep marching onwards leaving old ones feeling outdated.
