@cks @ghibli Yeah, I quite see it similarly. Magic at the start to look good, and at the end no magic anymore or Chihiro either being tainted (food) or similar (ie. magic hairband of Zeniba) revealing the true nature of the gate.

As for outside-world time… given the branches on the car and dust inside I do think it could cause the parents some issues as they're expecting a moving van.
