I don't have a lot of hope in that, either, unfortunately. I think people will be people. The upside of this is that there are facets of human nature that make it work: people do not often have a widespread cultural appreciation for something abstract, but if they have something, they will push back against it being taken away. Making that freedom concrete and letting people enjoy that freedom gets them behind its preservation when it's under threat.
