It's still likely to happen, also you can bet most hookers that do regular sex intercourse will also do unprotected anal sex regularly, and not even counting the fact most hookers are also into drugs that involve needles.

Pretty sure prostitution and drugs were and still are far more problematic with AIDS transmission for society, specially since there's more straight people involved in both than gay people, because there's more straight people in general.
