I learned something from a Jack the Ripper doco recently. In the 1800s (and probably earlier), women of substance were constrained by binding corsetry inside their garments.
Poorer women could not afford the luxuries of corsets and bloomers, so they wore their dresses loose on their bodies.
This is how the term "loose" woman came into existence. Women were judged by their poverty and found both wanting and wanton.
Sex work should be legalised and governed by rules that protect women in their workplace.
