Evan Malmgren@ntnsndr In these situations I try to use my white-male status to [safely] subvert rooted assumptions: Friendly small-talk or even sympathizing with frustrations about government and corporate power, then I reveal things that they may have been predisposed to judge: I am a socialist, journalist, went to liberal arts college, etc.
Meet ensuing disagreements kindly but firmly. No catharsis or immediate results, but such experiences can accumulate in a person’s psyche!
